Tobit
Chapter 7
When they had come to Ecbatana, they arrived at the house of Raguel. And Sarah met them and greeted them, and they greeted her, and she brought them into the house.
Then Raguel said to his wife Edna, "How similar this young man is to my cousin Tobit!"
And Raguel asked them, "From where are you, brethren?" They said to him, "We are of the sons of Naphtali, who are captives in Nineveh."
Then he said to them, "Do you know Tobit our relative?" They said, "We know him." Then he said, "Is he in good health?"
And they said, "He is both alive and in good health." And Tobias said, "He is my father."
Then Raguel leaped up and kissed him, and wept,
and blessed him, and said to him, "You are the son of a good and noble man." But when he heard that Tobit had lost his sight, he was grieved and wept.
Likewise, his wife Edna and his daughter Sarah wept.
Then they welcomed them gladly; and they killed a ram from the flock, and set a great deal of meat on the table. Then Tobias said to Raphael, "Brother Azarias, speak to Raguel about those things of which you talked on the way, so that this matter may be accomplished."
So he communicated the matter to Raguel. And Raguel said to Tobias, "Eat and drink, and make merry;
for it is proper for you to marry my daughter. But I will tell you the truth.
I have given my daughter in marriage to seven men, and when they came in to her, they all died during the night. But for the present, be merry." Then Tobias said, "I will eat nothing here until you make a pledge to me and give me your daughter."
Raguel said, "I will give her to you from now on according to the judgment of the Law of Moses, and from heaven it is decreed that she should be given to you. Take your cousin; from now on you are her brother, and she is your sister. She is given to you from today for ever. May the Lord of heaven prosper you tonight, my son, and grant you mercy and peace."
Then Raguel called his daughter Sarah, and she came to him, and he took her by the hand and gave her to Tobias as a wife, saying, "Behold, take her according to the Law of Moses, and lead her away to your father." And he blessed them.
Then he called Edna his wife, and took a scroll, and wrote a marriage contract, and sealed it.
Then they began to eat.
Afterward, Raguel called his wife Edna, and said to her, "Sister, prepare another room, and bring her in there."
She did as he said, and brought her there, and she wept. But she also comforted her daughter, and wiped away her tears, and said to her,
"Be of good cheer, my daughter. May the Lord of heaven give you joy instead of your grief. Be of good cheer, my daughter." Then she went out.
